Not a scratch on Greg, but car is in bad shape. Now the wait for what the insurance people will do with his baby.

Yeah, it brought a tear to my eye when I drove up. AND NOW he's here having coffee with me and he cruised up in a fricken "wagon".
Time to head over to B&S to talk to them.

So sorry to hear about this, but glad we have good people lending a hand. And glad to hear that he didn't get a scratch. That is the most important thing.

Thank you Keith for the ride and thanks for the kind words. I was on 680 and saw brake lights 7 cars ahead of me and lift off the throttle. Next thing I knew those seven cars were all coming to a screeching halt. I slid into the car ahead of me who had already hit the car in front of her. Later I found out that the first two cars were in a little road rage fight. The front car slammed on it's brakes and came to a complete stop on the Sunol grade. It could have been much worse. One of the cars swerved and side swiped a mini van with children in it. The two idiots who caused this fled without a scratch.

I'm waiting for what my insurance company is going to say. I was a little shocked when B&S gave me a quick quote of $10,300. That was just hood, one fender, grill, lights(used), oil cooler ($600), radiator, radiator support, all the little parts, and paint.

Freaking ridiculous. It just boggles my mind how selfish some people are and how little regard they have for the safety and welfare of others. Really glad nobody was hurt after finding out this story, especially those kids.

This was a tough decision. After my car is repaired I'll have 200k mile car with an accident on it's record. The engine was rebuilt almost 50k miles ago. The rest of the paint is in so-so shape. The interior is cool.

So I worked a deal with a friend. I'm trading him my car as-is and cash for this:

It's a '93 euro with 80k miles. All of the hoses have been changed, the EDC works great, fresh paint job, new brakes, I'll put my 18" Alpina wheels on it, it dynoed 305rwhp(that's a very strong M5), I've had it up on a rack and every thing is dry as a bone.

That is a really nice Euro and seems like a nice trade. I like the silver with all clear euro lights, it has a clean look. The Alpinas will just set it off.

That M5 looks really nice. Sounds like a pretty fair trade. 305 whp is very strong numbers!!! The Alpina wheels should really make it stand out.

Got her home

The good:
Engine and transmission are tight and strong. The EDC works great.

The not so good:
The rear wing was loose. Took an hour screwing around with that to tighten it today.

It's got the 55mph shimmy and pulls to the left, wasn't expecting that. The shimmy got a little worse what I installed the 18" Alpinas.

The brakes are very mushy. I've owned a '95 540i, '95 M5, '91 M5, and a '92 M5T. The brakes on this new car are the worst brakes yet. Seller says they just need to be bled....we'll see. They are worst when braking slowly. As I push slow not much happens.

Seller installed HIDs. He crammed wires into the headlight connector and threw some tape around it. Then jumped my butt for moving the wires and causing the lights not to work. I installed connectors today.

The diff has the groan while turning slow, needs new oil and LS additive. Wasn't expecting that either.

The $3k stereo is mostly crap. Looked up the speakers, some blown. Anyone use Sansui or Helix car speakers? I did a search and the Helix brand is a common speaker in the UK. The trunk had a big box with 2 Alpine 12" subs. It's wired poorly and has to be completely re-done. It does have a nice Alpine head unit, but the seller wants to keep that.

It needs the fan clutch replaced. Seller already had one but I have to install it.

Seller warned me about that the exhaust was wrong. It's a Supersprint from an e32 730i. He told me that it rubs. I didn't know it pushes the bumper cover out almost an inch when driving spirited. If I change the center section the exhaust shop can straighten things out.

Moral of the story, get a PPI even if buying from someone you've known a long time. It could help the negotiations.

Oh yea, when I dropped the seller off the fuel light was on and it was filthy..

Greg, she looks sweet with the Alpinas on. Alas, another project to look forward to.

Yup, I am loving the softlines. It sounds like you've got some work ahead of you sorting out the car.
